BODEGAS REVERÓN

In March 2006, aged 89 and with a tape measure in hand, Eugenio Reverón Sierra was discussing with Diego, his son – ‘the lad’, as he called him – the intricacies of an exciting project that also filled him with trepidation: the extension of his old winery, where he had been producing bulk wine since 1947 and where he had already begun making two new wines – a semi-dry white and a red – bottled under the Finca Reverón brand with the endorsement of the Abona Designation of Origin. The fact was that ‘he didn’t like things to be done haphazardly, as a project has to be managed and looked after properly; otherwise, it’s no good’.

EUGENIO REVERÓN SIERRA (17 November 1916 – 17 August 2010) had been involved in viticulture, amongst other things, since 1946. “I bought grapes and started making wine; although everything was more complicated back then than it is now, we sold all the wine we made, but we had to carry it in large jugs, by hand, because there were no tarmac roads.”
